Queen City Bird Festival 2011 Program

The Queen City Bird Festival is this Saturday, May 14, 9 – 4pm at the Hueston Woods Nature Center. For a look at the program schedule click here: QCBF Program 2011.

The Festival is an annual gathering which engages families in basic birding activities and teaches them both to explore and value nature and to learn ways to conserve and enhance our natural world.  Approximately fifty volunteers coordinate a full day of free activities which engage participants in a natural setting outdoors, away from televisions and computer screens.

Some of the activities include: beginning bird hikes, nature-related games such as “name that bird”, making bird masks, banding demonstrations, raptor demonstrations, feeder watching and short talks on bird identification and other topics.  A keynote speaker concludes the day’s activities.  This year’s speaker will be Doug Feist, an assistant manager of the Cincinnati Zoo.  Children have the opportunity to earn a young birder’s patch upon completion of a number of activites throughout the day.
