Field Trip on June 4 – Capability Farm

Field Trip, Saturday, June 4, 2016: Capability Farm, Versailles, Indiana

Once a working farm, Capability Farm is now a 400-acre private preserve. The property is located south of Versailles, Indiana off of US 421 and is owned by Bob and Ellen Mulford. Capability Farm was planned and developed with the assistance of the US Conservation Service, Fish and Wildlife Service and Indiana Department of Natural Resources. With a five-acre controllable wetland, several acres of open water, managed grasslands, and upland forests, Capability Farm has a property list of over 200 bird species. A network of trails allows easy access to the varied habitats. Our guide for this visit will be expert naturalist Gary Stegner, who will meet us at the site. We will meet at 6:30 a.m. at the TJ Maxx parking lot (on Locust Street across from McDonald’s) for the 90-minute drive to the preserve, returning to Oxford mid- to late-afternoon. Pack a lunch and bring binoculars if possible.

For instructions on meeting a trip at the trip site, or information on last-minute changes, consult the site or send an e-mail to the trip coordinator at
